Jalapeños, we love ‘em! These peppers aren’t too spicy, so they’re also an option for people who aren’t too big on spiciness. The kick of the jalapeño peppers is countered by the soft cream cheese, and the bacon adds a nice crispy bite to this treat. It’s an easy bite to prepare and a definite party starter on any occasion.

You must have noticed that we’re using the abbreviation “ABT” in the recipe title. “ABT” is short for “Atomic Buffalo Turd” – which is probably enough to crack you up. It’s unclear who came up with this term, but don’t let it put you off and just try them: they’re incredible!!

On the internet, there are many variations on this dish. Most recipes use the same basic ingredients, but we couldn’t help ourselves and just had to experiment with different ingredients and flavors. For example, we used fresh cheddar and made our own BBQ rub

Cut the jalapeños in half lengthwise and use a spoon to remove membranes and seeds.

Stuff the jalapeños with cream cheese and top them off with a slice of fresh cheddar. Now wrap a strip of bacon around the jalapeños and sprinkle them with your (homemade) BBQ rub.

Preparation

Approx. 25 mins

Prepare your BBQ for indirect grilling at a moderate temperature (approx. 338°F/170°C). Place the jalapeños on the indirect side of the BBQ and gently close the lid. After about 10 minutes, check if the cheese already starts melting and if the jalapeños are tenderizing.

Our ABTs took about 25 minutes to cook. Now carefully remove the lid from the BBQ and serve the jalapeños immediately.
